What Stages of Gum Disease Can be Cured?

What Stages of Gum Disease Can be Cured? You might experience gum bleeding when brushing or flossing your teeth. Many assume that this results from applying too much pressure, but this is the first sign of gum disease. However, this occurs due to gum infection, which can lead to tooth loss. Gum disease is brought on by bacteria from plaque and tartar that accumulate over time due to poor oral hygiene practices. The infection has three stages, some of which are treatable, as discussed below:

Gingivitis

Gingivitis is the early stage of gum infection, and it is treatable. At this stage, treatment for gum disease can stop it from spreading. Your gums may swell, get red, or bleed when you floss or brush them if you have gingivitis. Before gingivitis grows into more serious symptoms, it is crucial to treat it.

Periodontitis

Gingivitis can progress to the next stage of gum disease called periodontitis if it is not treated. Plaque extends below the gum line and releases toxins that cause inflammation, leading to periodontitis. The gums may regress, and the spaces between the teeth may widen. Gums separating from your bottom or top teeth may be a sign of this. The effects of infection could start to weaken the bone and loosen your teeth.

Advanced Periodontitis

At the advanced stage, your teeth may loosen more as your periodontitis progresses. You might also experience tooth loss, bone loss, temperature sensitivity, and gum swelling. The infection can endanger your smile and overall health because it can get into your bloodstream. Your dentist will develop a personalized treatment plan to cure the infection and restore your smile. Gum grafting is one of the treatments they could employ to get your oral health back on track. If you've lost any teeth, the infection must be treated before you can get new tooth replacements.
