It Is Possible to Ease the Symptoms of Diabetes with Gum Disease Treatment
Posted on 9/21/2021 by Ronald Watkins
Gum disease is a condition that affects 5 out of 10 people. It is commonly caused by infections that affect the gums. If you don't brush or floss your teeth on a regular basis, you are more likely to develop gum disease. Gum disease can be treated, especially in its early stages. A connection has also been established between gum disease treatment and diabetes. Studies suggest that intensively treating gum disease will help ease the symptoms of type 2 diabetes. It does so by helping reduce blood glucose levels and manage other complications related to diabetes.
How Gum Disease Treatment Can Help
In a study done on a group of people with diabetes, half of the participants were given intensive gum disease treatment, which involved minor gum surgery and deep cleaning of gums. The other half received basic care that involved brushing and polishing their teeth. Both groups received these treatments alongside the type 2 diabetes medications they have been taking. After 12 months, those that received intensive gum disease therapy had a reduced blood glucose level by 0.6% more than those that received basic care. They also showed reduced levels of gum inflammation, something that lowers the risk of advanced symptoms of diabetes such as kidney disease, stroke, and heart disease.
These findings are believed to be the first connection between intensive gum disease treatment and reducing the signs of diabetes, and improving blood vessel and kidney function. Gum disease is a condition that has been linked to diabetes, and it is known to increase blood glucose levels as well as chronic inflammation. All these conditions can lead to the improper development of blood vessels and kidney damage. Therefore, gum disease treatment will go a long way in reducing symptoms of diabetes.
