Brushing Too Aggressive Can Cause Damage to Your Gums
Posted on 1/11/2021 by Ronald Watkins
If you brush too aggressively, you will not clean your teeth better, you will only damage the enamel and the gum tissue. Therefore, brushing too hard only strips off the enamel and irritates the surrounding tissue. In fact, it is easy to get an infection, as a scratch on the gums or enamel erosion can lead to more pronounced problems.
How to Brush Properly
Brushing your teeth does not have to involve “scrubbing” your teeth. Otherwise, you will remove more than the biofilm called plaque. You can also damage both the gums and hard outer covering of the teeth. To prevent this from happening, use a soft manual toothbrush or an electric toothbrush that has a soft brush head that is round. Never use medium or firm bristles, as they can be destructive, especially if you brush too forcefully. However, that does not mean you can brush more aggressively with soft bristles either.
How to Train Yourself to Use the Best Brushing Technique
To prevent yourself from brushing with added force, you should choose an electric toothbrush that features sensors. Sensors on an electric toothbrush will alert you when you are not brushing correctly. Each time you expend too much effort or brush your teeth too hard, the sensors on the brush will warn you. Also, an electric brush will allow you to brush your teeth more easily if you happen to have mobility problems due to arthritis.
