This can happen when you brush your teeth, when you are eating, and, or even bleeding often, as uncomfortable as it sounds. This should not be assumed; these signs may indicate an underlying problem or an issue with your brushing technique. All in all, they require dental attention. These signs might mean it is gum disease or any of the issues mentioned below.

Poor brushing technique

It is common to find people brushing their teeth while using their phones or while working. This is wrong, it may lead to gum soreness if you do not brush gently and properly. To reduce the pain, you experience in your gums, specifically right inside the root of your teeth, you are advised to brush gently using circular motions. Dentists will advise that you should not use a brush with hard bristles, instead use one that has soft nylon bristles. They go easier on the gums, your gums are a soft tissue which if irritated time after time, can damage and become sore. Paying attention to the way you brush can help improve your oral health, so instead of doing other things while you brush take two minutes of your time to watch yourself in a mirror while you are on it.

Gum disease

During the early stages, it is referred to as gingivitis. Surprisingly, nearly half of the population in the United States have gum disease issues. This stage is the severe stage that you do not want to get to. Associated with sensitivity of your teeth, swelling of the gums, and soreness while brushing. This disease eventually leads to tooth loss; however, this can be mitigated if you visit a periodontist. They are responsible for the diagnosis and examination of your oral health.

Other reasons that might cause pain when you are brushing include ulcers, hormones, diet and in other cases, patients with braces might also be affected. For this and more information, our dentists are available, make an appointment today.
